It may sound overdramatic to say--but Ken's downward spiral was at least arrested by Aya and his recovery was prompted by Ken's desire to be someone that, in his mind, could be around him. Ken would, and has, gone to the ends of the earth to be with him, uprooting from everything he's ever known in Japan and leaving behind Kritiker and Weiss in the process. And really, Ken's now happier than he's been in years for it. tl;dr: devotion, partnership, dependence
